What is a sworn affidavit?

An affidavit is a written sworn statement of fact made by an affiant under oath. In South Africa, a sworn affidavit can be handwritten or typed and must be signed by the affiant in the presence of a Commissioner of Oaths. There are several uses for a sworn affidavit (e.g. in court proceedings or business transactions).
