Download SAPS 517(e) – Firearm Licence Renewal using Previous Act
In 2004 the legislation which governs the licensing of firearms changed. The Firearm Control Act of 2000 (FCA) replaced the Arms and Ammunition Act 75 of 1969 (AAA). Subsequently, all firearm licenses issued under the old act must be renewed.
In order to apply for renewal of a firearm licence in terms of the previous act, submit SAPS 517(e) form to the designated firearms officer (DFO) at the police station in the area where you ordinarily reside. A competency certificate (SAPS 517), Annexure A and supporting documentation must accompany the application.
